
A randomized controlled trial was conducted in Cuba to determine immune responses after one fractional dose (0.1mL or 1/5 the dose size) of inactivated poliovirus vaccine using the PharmaJet Tropis jet Injector, as compared to a full dose (0.5mL) with traditional needle and syringe intradermal technique.1 In collaboration with the World Health Organization, the study was performed with children 12 to 20 months of age who had previously received two doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV) with the objective of not only reducing costs, but providing an easier method of administration for the provider. The jet Injector demonstrated its ability to streamline intradermal IPV administration, and showed the same or better efficacy by using 60% less vaccine e.g. two doses of 0.1mL vs. one dose of 0.5mL, and administering the vaccine intradermally.
